02 ⚠ Fees changed on 8 April 2026
The 6-month UK visit visa fee from Pakistan rose from £127 to £135. The 2-year visa went to £506, the 5-year to £903 and the 10-year to £1,128.
Any page still quoting £127 is out of date. Confirm the live figure at visa-fees.homeoffice.gov.uk on the day you submit — paying the wrong amount can get an application rejected.
03 Do Pakistanis Need a Visit Visa for the UK?
Yes. Pakistan sits on the UK's visa-national list, so every Pakistani passport holder needs a visa before travelling, for any purpose and any length of stay. There is no visa-free option, no visa on arrival, and no exemption for short trips.
You cannot use the UK ETA
The UK's £20 Electronic Travel Authorisation does not apply to Pakistan. It exists only for nationals who are already visa-exempt — Gulf states, the USA, EU members and similar. Any agent offering to arrange a UK ETA on a Pakistani passport is either mistaken or defrauding you.
What the Standard Visitor visa covers
Most Pakistani applicants need the Standard Visitor visa, which is a single route covering several purposes. On the application form and on your visa it may appear as visa type C-Visit.
- Tourism and sightseeing
- Visiting family or friends settled in the UK
- Business meetings, conferences, trade fairs and contract negotiation
- Attending a wedding, convocation or family event
- Private medical treatment of up to 6 months
- Short courses of up to 30 days
- Accompanying an academic visit or attending an interview
What it does not cover
You cannot work, do paid or unpaid employment, run a business from the UK, study long term, marry, access NHS treatment free of charge, or claim public funds. Working on a visit visa — even one day, even cash in hand, even remotely — leads to removal and a future ban.
04 Types of UK Visit Visa
There is one Standard Visitor visa, issued in four durations. The longer options do not give you more time in the UK — they save you reapplying.
div class="uk-visa-table-container">
| Duration | Fee (GBP) | Approx. PKR | Max stay per visit | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 months | £135 | ≈ 50,100 | 180 days | First-time applicants |
| 2 years | £506 | ≈ 187,700 | 180 days | Regular family visits |
| 5 years | £903 | ≈ 335,000 | 180 days | Frequent business travel |
| 10 years | £1,128 | ≈ 418,500 | 180 days | Established travel history |
Is a long-term visit visa worth it?
Work it out against your actual travel pattern. Eight separate 6-month applications over ten years cost £1,080 — barely less than one 10-year visa at £1,128, and that is before eight rounds of VFS charges and document preparation. If you genuinely travel to the UK once a year or more, the long-term visa is cheaper.
If this is your first UK application, apply for the 6-month visa. Long-term applications attract heavier scrutiny of your travel history and your reasons for returning to Pakistan, and a refusal costs you the whole £903 or £1,128 with no refund and no appeal.
Family visit visa
There is no separate UK family visit visa. Visiting your son, daughter, parents, siblings or spouse in the UK uses the same Standard Visitor route at the same fee. What changes is the evidence: you add your UK relative's invitation letter, proof of their immigration status, their address, and their financial documents if they are sponsoring you.
Business visit visa
Business visitors also use the Standard Visitor visa. Permitted activities include meetings, conferences, site visits and negotiating contracts. You cannot do paid work for a UK company. Include a UK company invitation letter, your Pakistani business registration (SECP or partnership deed), your NTN certificate, and evidence of who is funding the trip.
Marriage visitor visa
If you are travelling to marry or register a civil partnership in the UK but not to settle there, you need the Marriage Visitor visa at £135 — you cannot marry on a Standard Visitor visa. If you intend to live in the UK after marrying, that is the Fiancé(e) visa, which is a settlement route with a very different fee and evidence standard.
05 UK Visit Visa Requirements for Pakistanis
The Home Office does not publish a fixed checklist, because the test is whether an Entry Clearance Officer is satisfied you are a genuine visitor who will leave at the end of your stay. In practice, Pakistani applications are assessed on the same core evidence every time.
Core documents
- Valid Pakistani passport, valid for your whole stay, with at least one blank page
- Completed online application form on GOV.UK — every applicant needs their own
- Bank statements — normally 6 months, on bank letterhead, stamped and signed
- Proof of employment: employment letter stating your salary, position, joining date and approved leave dates
- For the self-employed: business registration, NTN certificate, SECP registration or partnership deed
- FBR tax returns (Taxpayer Certificate) — strongly recommended, this is one of the clearest proofs of ties to Pakistan
- Proof of accommodation in the UK: hotel bookings, or your host's invitation letter and address
- Travel itinerary — do not book non-refundable flights before your visa is approved
- Property documents: registry, allotment letter or Fard showing assets in Pakistan
- Cover letter explaining your trip, who is paying, and why you will return
- CNIC copy and certified English translations of any Urdu documents
- Passport-size photographs meeting UK visa photo requirements (plain light background, no glasses, full face visible)
If someone in the UK is sponsoring or hosting you
- Sponsor letter or invitation letter stating your relationship, the purpose and length of your visit, and exactly what they are paying for
- Your host's passport bio page, or their eVisa share code / proof of settled status
- Their UK address and proof of it — tenancy agreement, mortgage statement or council tax bill
- Their bank statements and payslips if they are funding any part of the trip
- Proof of your relationship: family registration certificate (FRC from NADRA), birth certificates, photographs, call records
Documents you do not need
- Police character certificate — not required for a UK visit visa
- Polio certificate — not part of the UK visa application
- IELTS or any English test — not required for a visit visa
- TB test — only needed for stays over 6 months, so not for a standard visit
- Travel insurance — not mandatory, though sensible
06 Bank Statement Requirements — Where Most Applications Fail
This is the single most common reason Pakistani visit visa applications are refused, and it is rarely about the total. Officers are assessing whether the money is genuinely yours and genuinely available.
How much bank statement is required for a UK visit visa?
There is no official minimum. The Home Office assesses whether your funds credibly cover the trip you have described. As a working guide, a stable balance of roughly PKR 8–10 lakh maintained over six months reads well for a typical two-week visit. A three-week trip with UK hotel bookings needs more; a two-week stay with family who are hosting you needs less.
What officers actually look for in your statement A stable balance built up over time — not a large sum that appeared last week. Salary credits that match the figure on your employment letter. A mismatch reads as a fabricated letter. Any large credit explained and evidenced — property sale deed, gratuity letter, bonus slip, inheritance documents. No sudden deposit shortly before the application. Borrowed money parked in an account to inflate the balance is the most common cause of refusal, and officers are experienced at spotting it. Statements on official bank letterhead, stamped and signed, covering an unbroken six months up to the application date. |
If a sponsor in the UK is funding your trip, submit their bank statements and payslips alongside a sponsorship letter that explains your relationship and confirms exactly what they will cover. Do not submit both a strong personal balance and a sponsor without explaining why — an unexplained sponsor makes officers question your own finances.
07 Proving Your Ties to Pakistan
For a visit visa, the central question the Entry Clearance Officer is answering is simple: will this person go home? Everything anchoring you to Pakistan helps.
Type of tie | Evidence to submit |
|---|---|
Employment | Employment letter with salary, position, tenure and approved leave dates; recent payslips |
Business | SECP or partnership registration, NTN certificate, FBR returns, business bank statements |
Property | Registry, allotment letter, Fard, or rental income agreements |
Family | Marriage certificate, children's B-forms, FRC from NADRA showing dependants remaining in Pakistan |
Ongoing study | Enrolment letter and fee receipts if you are a student returning to a course |
Travel history | Previous visas and entry stamps from any country, especially returns within the permitted period |
A young single applicant with no property, no fixed job and no travel history faces the hardest path — not from bias, but because there is little evidence of return. If that describes you, the practical route is to build a travel record in easier destinations first: the UAE, Türkiye, Malaysia, Azerbaijan or Saudi Arabia. A passport with two or three clean returns is a materially stronger application.
08 Cover Letter for a UK Visit Visa
A cover letter is not required, but it is the only place in the application where you speak directly to the officer. On a borderline file it is the difference between an approval and a refusal. Keep it to one page.
What to include
- Who you are: name, passport number, occupation, city
- Why you are travelling and exactly when — specific dates, not 'sometime this summer'
- Where you will stay, with the address
- Who is paying, and for what — if a sponsor is involved, name them and explain the relationship
- Your ties to Pakistan: job with approved leave, business, property, family remaining behind
- A clear statement of when and why you will return
- If you have been refused before: acknowledge it, state the ground cited, and explain what has changed
What to avoid
- Emotional appeals about how much the trip means to you — officers assess evidence, not sentiment
- Vague plans. 'I will travel around the UK' is weaker than a dated day-by-day outline
- Repeating your documents. The letter should explain them, not list them
- Any statement you cannot evidence elsewhere in the file
09 How to Apply for a UK Visit Visa from Pakistan
The entire process is designed to be completed by the applicant. Every step below you can do yourself, for free.
Step 1 — Complete the online application
Apply at gov.uk. There is no downloadable PDF form for a visit visa any more — the old VAF1A and VAF1B paper forms are obsolete, and any site offering you a UK visit visa form to download is out of date. The application is entirely online. Every applicant, including children, needs their own form and pays their own fee.
Answer the travel history and previous refusal questions completely. The Home Office holds your full immigration record, and an omission looks like deception even when it was an honest mistake — that finding alone can produce a ten-year ban.
Step 2 — Pay the fee
Pay online by international Visa or Mastercard at the point of submission. Never pay in cash at a visa centre and never through an agent's personal account. Enable international online transactions on your card first, since many Pakistani banks block them by default.
Step 3 — Book your biometrics appointment at VFS Global
Book at a VFS Global centre in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore or Mirpur. Standard appointments are free — you pay only for optional extras you choose. Book as soon as your application is submitted; slots fill fast during summer, Ramadan and the weeks around Eid.
Step 4 — Attend the appointment
Bring your printed appointment confirmation, your passport and your supporting documents. You give fingerprints and a photograph. VFS staff collect and forward your file — they do not assess it and have no influence over the decision.
Step 5 — Submit your documents
Upload documents online before the appointment, or have them scanned at the centre for a fee. Uploading yourself in advance is free and lets you check every page is legible. Keep all originals.
Step 6 — Wait for the decision, then set up your eVisa
You are emailed when a decision is made. Collect your passport or receive it by courier. After approval, create a UKVI account at gov.uk/evisa, link your current passport, and generate a share code to test the View and Prove service before you fly.
10 UK Visit Visa Fee from Pakistan
| Item | Fee (GBP) | Approx. PKR | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Visitor — 6 months | £135 | ≈ 50,100 | Most common option |
| Long-term — 2 years | £506 | ≈ 187,700 | Each visit still 180 days |
| Long-term — 5 years | £903 | ≈ 335,000 | Needs travel history |
| Long-term — 10 years | £1,128 | ≈ 418,500 | Needs strong travel history |
| Marriage Visitor | £135 | ≈ 50,100 | To marry, not to settle |
| Priority service | +£500 | ≈ 185,500 | Targets 5 working days |
| Super Priority service | +£1,000 | ≈ 371,000 | Next working day, limited availability |
| Health surcharge (IHS) | £0 | 0 | Not payable on visits of 6 months or less |
| TB test | Not required | — | Only for stays over 6 months |
- Card conversion spread: your bank adds 3–5% above the interbank rate — roughly PKR 2,000 on a 6-month visa
- VFS optional services (SMS updates, document scanning, courier return): PKR 3,000–10,000 if you choose them
- VFS premium lounge: around £61 (PKR ~22,600), entirely optional
- Certified Urdu to English translations: PKR 1,500–4,000 per document
- Bank statement stamping and employment letters: PKR 500–3,000
- Travel to Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore or Mirpur if you live elsewhere
| ⚠ At the VFS centre, optional means optional Every VFS add-on is genuinely optional. Your application cannot be refused for declining them, and VFS staff have no influence over the outcome. Applicants in Pakistan have reported being pressured into buying add-ons at the counter. You are entitled to say no. Book the free standard appointment and decline anything you did not choose in advance. The only unavoidable payment is the Home Office fee, paid online on GOV.UK by you. |
11 UK Visit Visa Processing Time from Pakistan
| Service | Target | What it actually means |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | About 3 weeks | 15 working days from biometrics, not from payment |
| Priority (£500) | 5 working days | Subject to availability at your centre |
| Super Priority (£1,000) | Next working day | Rarely available in Pakistan — check before paying |
The clock starts at your biometrics appointment, not the day you pay. These are targets, not guarantees.
What slows applications down
- Applications from Pakistan are sometimes referred for additional verification, which pauses the clock. This is routine and is not a sign of refusal.
- Summer and the weeks around Eid are the busiest periods — add two to three weeks.
- Incomplete or illegible document uploads trigger requests that add days.
- Priority slots are frequently unavailable during peak season regardless of willingness to pay.
Apply six to eight weeks before you intend to travel, and never book non-refundable flights before your passport is back in your hand. Paying for priority does not improve your chances of approval — if your file is weak, it only produces a faster refusal.
Tracking your application
You can track progress using your GWF reference number, issued when you submit your online application, through the VFS Global tracking page or by email enquiry. Status updates are limited: most applicants see nothing between submission and the decision email, and silence is normal.
12 Where to Apply in Pakistan
VFS Global visa application centres
VFS Global is a commercial partner that collects biometrics and documents on behalf of UK Visas and Immigration. There are centres in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Mirpur. Book only through the official VFS website after paying on GOV.UK. Appointments are free.
VFS staff do not assess applications, do not make decisions, and cannot influence outcomes. Decisions are made by Entry Clearance Officers at centralised UKVI decision-making centres, not in Pakistan.
British High Commission and Deputy High Commission
The British High Commission is in the Diplomatic Enclave, Ramna 5, Islamabad; the Deputy High Commission is on Shahrah-e-Faisal, Karachi. Neither accepts walk-in visa applications or in-person visa enquiries. Everything goes through GOV.UK and VFS.
✕ Nobody can influence a decision Any agent claiming to have contacts at the British High Commission or VFS who can guarantee a visa is lying. Decisions are made by Entry Clearance Officers against published rules, and no third party can affect them. Be especially wary of 'done base' or 'guaranteed visa' offers advertised on OLX, Facebook and WhatsApp. These are the most common visa frauds in Pakistan, and paying one does not improve your odds — it usually produces a file with fabricated documents that earns you a ten-year ban for deception. If you want professional help, use only an adviser registered with the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA, formerly OISC). Everything they do, you can do yourself for free. |
13 Refusal Reasons and How to Avoid Them
| Refusal ground | What it usually means | How to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| Financial evidence | Sudden deposits, unexplained credits, or a balance that does not match your stated income | Six unbroken months of stable balance; evidence every large credit |
| Weak ties to Pakistan | No property, unstable job, no dependants remaining behind | Employment letter with approved leave, FBR returns, property papers, FRC |
| Not a genuine visitor | Vague itinerary, trip cost inconsistent with income, purpose unclear | Dated itinerary, cover letter, bookings that match your budget |
| Inconsistent documents | Salary on the letter differs from bank credits; dates contradict each other | Cross-check every figure and date before you submit |
| Undeclared history | A previous refusal or overstay not declared on the form | Declare everything — the Home Office already has your record |
| Deception | Fabricated documents or a false statement | Never risk it. A deception finding carries a 10-year ban |
14 What to Do If Your UK Visit Visa Is Refused
- Read the refusal notice carefully. It cites the exact grounds under specific paragraphs of the Immigration Rules — that letter is your instruction manual.
- Fix the specific ground cited. If the officer was not satisfied about your finances, a stronger cover letter will not help; new financial evidence will.
- Wait until something has genuinely changed. There is no mandatory waiting period, but reapplying next week with the same documents wastes another £135.
- Address the refusal head-on in a covering letter. Acknowledge it, name the ground, and explain what is different now. Ignoring it looks evasive.
- Never submit fabricated documents to overcome a refusal. A deception finding turns a recoverable refusal into a ten-year ban.
15 Validity, Length of Stay and Extensions
- A 6-month visit visa allows a stay of up to 180 days.
- Long-term visit visas (2, 5 and 10 years) allow multiple entries, but each individual visit is still capped at 180 days.
- A 10-year visa does not let you live in the UK. This is the most expensive misunderstanding in this category.
- You generally cannot extend a visit visa or switch to another route from inside the UK. Return to Pakistan and apply again.
- Overstaying, even briefly, seriously damages every future application to any country.
⚠ Do not treat a long-term visit visa as residence If your travel history shows repeated long stays with short gaps between them, the Home Office can cancel the visa on the ground that you are effectively living in the UK on a visitor route. There is no published maximum number of days per year, but a pattern of spending more time in the UK than in Pakistan will attract scrutiny at the border and on your next application. |
Can you convert a visit visa to a work or student visa?
No. You cannot switch from a visit visa to a work, student or settlement route from inside the UK. Applying as a visitor while intending to stay is deception and can bring a ten-year ban. If you want to study or work in the UK, apply for that route from Pakistan.
16 Travelling to the UK on Your Visit Visa
A visa is permission to travel, not a guarantee of entry. Border Force officers make the final decision at the airport.
- Update your UKVI account with your current passport before you fly. If your eVisa is linked to an old passport number, the airline may refuse to board you — this is currently the most common travel problem and entirely avoidable.
- Carry printouts: your eVisa share code, hotel or host address, return ticket and proof of funds.
- Be ready to answer basic questions about your trip, consistently with what you told the visa officer.
- Cash over £10,000 or equivalent must be declared. Undeclared cash can be seized.
- A UK visit visa does not admit you to Ireland, Schengen countries or anywhere else — those need their own visas.
◆ Important for British-Pakistani dual nationals From 25 February 2026, British citizens with dual nationality travelling to the UK on a non-British passport need either a valid British or Irish passport, or a Certificate of Entitlement to the right of abode. Without one you may be refused boarding. If you hold both passports, travel to the UK on your British passport. |
17 Is a UK Visit Visa Easy to Get from Pakistan?
Honestly: the UK is one of the tougher visas for Pakistani passport holders, but far from impossible. About 55% of Pakistani visitor applications are granted.
Your chances are strongest with stable verifiable income, a clean six-month bank statement, genuine ties to Pakistan, a consistent and honest application, and prior travel history. They are weakest for young single applicants with no property, unstable income and no travel record.
The biggest lever is preparation, not money. You cannot buy a better outcome — priority service only buys speed, VFS add-ons buy convenience, and agents buy nothing at all. What changes outcomes is a file that answers the officer's question before it is asked.
Nothing on this page requires an agent. Everything an agent does, you can do yourself, for free.
18 Frequently Asked Questions
How much is the UK visit visa fee from Pakistan?
£135 for 6 months, about PKR 50,100 at July 2026 rates. Long-term options are £506 for 2 years, £903 for 5 years and £1,128 for 10 years. No health surcharge applies to visits of 6 months or less.
How much bank statement is required for a UK visit visa from Pakistan?
There is no official minimum. As a working guide, a stable balance of roughly PKR 8–10 lakh maintained over six months reads well for a two-week visit. What matters more than the total is that the money is demonstrably yours and was not deposited shortly before you applied.
How long does a UK visit visa take from Pakistan?
About 3 weeks (15 working days) from your biometrics appointment. Add two to three weeks during summer and around Eid. Priority service targets 5 working days for £500, subject to availability.
How can I apply for a UK visit visa from Pakistan?
Apply online at gov.uk, pay by international card, book a free biometrics appointment at a VFS Global centre in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore or Mirpur, upload your documents, and wait for the decision email. You do not need an agent at any stage.
Is there a UK visit visa form I can download?
No. The application is entirely online at GOV.UK. The old paper forms (VAF1A, VAF1B) are obsolete, and any website offering a downloadable UK visit visa form for Pakistan is out of date.
How long can I stay in the UK on a visit visa?
Up to 180 days per visit, on every version of the visa. A 10-year visa does not extend your permitted stay — it only saves you reapplying.
What is the UK visit visa success rate for Pakistan?
Roughly 55% in the year ending March 2026, with around 72,100 Pakistani visitor applications refused. That is one of the lowest grant rates among major applicant nationalities, which is why documentation quality matters more here than almost anywhere else.
What are the most common UK visit visa rejection reasons for Pakistanis?
Weak or unexplained financial evidence is the leading cause, followed by insufficient ties to Pakistan, an unconvincing or vague trip purpose, and inconsistencies between documents. Undeclared previous refusals and fabricated documents produce the most serious outcomes, including bans.
Can I appeal a UK visit visa refusal?
No. Visit visa refusals carry no right of appeal. You can apply for Administrative Review at £80 if the caseworker made an error, or simply reapply once you have fixed the ground cited in the refusal notice. There is no waiting period before reapplying.
Do I need a TB test for a UK visit visa?
No. TB testing is only required for stays over 6 months, so it does not apply to a standard visit visa.
Is IELTS required for a UK visit visa?
No. There is no English language requirement for a visit visa.
Can I work on a UK visit visa?
No. Working on a visit visa is illegal, including remote work, unpaid work and cash-in-hand jobs. It leads to removal, cancellation and future bans.
Can I convert a UK visit visa to a work permit or student visa?
No. You cannot switch routes from inside the UK on a visit visa. Applying as a visitor while intending to stay is deception and can bring a 10-year ban.
Do I need a sponsor for a UK visit visa?
No. You can self-sponsor if you can fund the trip yourself. If a UK relative is paying, include their sponsor letter, proof of status, address and financial documents.
Can I visit Ireland or Schengen countries on a UK visit visa?
No. A UK visit visa is valid only for the United Kingdom — England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Ireland and Schengen countries require their own visas.
Is there a UK visit visa interview?
Interviews are uncommon for Pakistani visit visa applicants but do happen. If you are called, expect straightforward questions about your trip purpose, who is paying, where you will stay and when you will return — all answerable directly from your own application.
Do I need an agent to apply?
No. The process is designed to be completed by the applicant. No agent, consultant or VFS employee can influence a decision. If you want professional help, use only an adviser registered with the Immigration Advice Authority.
19 Verify Before You Apply
All fees and rules on this page were verified against official sources in July 2026 and reflect the schedule effective 8 April 2026.
